the KIKI trilogy series is more than just a concert. We are an experience. we are storytellers, many of us queer, who use music to explore and celebrate themes that are universally significant yet deeply personal. Each show is centered around a theme such as mental health, self-love, and even body positivity. Through stunning music and evocative narratives, we embrace our audience, creating a space for connection and introspection.
What started as a simple show about expressing the love and heartbreak I’ve experienced in 30 something years, this series has evolved into a way to connect with our community through shared experiences and song. And dark humor of course ;) I never thought that I would share my experiences let alone on stage to hundreds of people but there seems to be something that resonates with our audiences. We are always astounded by the response to our honesty on stage and our gorgeous arrangements. Mak Kastelic and I have formed a core group of highly skilled musicians, friends, and allies to tell these stories.
Why Kiki’s Delivery Service? I explain this in the Love Songs & Heartbreak: Kiki’s Delivery Service is a Miyazaki film about a young witch who moves to a new town to use her magic and power of flight to help everyone living there. She quickly realizes that using her magic and her power for money causes her to burn out and she ends up losing her magic. I was dating someone in my early 20s coming out of some rather traumatic experiences and feeling broken and unloveable but he caught me and whatever baggage I was brining to the table. I had given up on dating, had given up on all kinds of love, and ultimately I gave up on myself. Over the course of five years together, this person taught me how to walk through life with my palms facing up to catch all of the good and all of the bad that life has to throw at me. Early on in our relationship, he gave me the nickname “Kiki” which our entire friend group STILL calls me. He helped me find my magic again.
